Hereford named best sirloin steak in national taste test
In a recent Good House Keeping comparison of 16 sirloin steaks conducted ahead of Valentine’s day, Co-op’s 28-day matured British Hereford beef sirloin steak came out on top.
Described as a ‘thick cut of a beef with a crisp trimming of fat’ the Hereford steak beat other breeds, both native and otherwise, along with steaks from overseas, including South America, and other premium steak products.
Reasonably priced at £4.50, the steak scored 90/100 with the judges who commented: “Deliciously rich, this steak has a slightly salted aroma which attracted our testers to the meat, and they also found it extremely juicy and succulent. Once seared, the fat crisps up making an overall richly indulgent eat.”
Hereford breed secretary David Deakin said: “The Society is pleased the quality of Hereford beef has been recognised in this taste test of sirloin steaks. We have enjoyed a great working relationship with the Co-op in helping them form their branded Hereford beef - offered through its Irresistible range and supplied by red meat processors Dunbia".
